#Future of monster rancher games series#
Monster Rancher is often compared to Pokémon, though the two series play differently. Now ranchers across the globe come together and enter battle. Eventually disc stones were found around the entire world. In a place where ranchers and monsters coexisted peacefully, the battle of the monsters began! As time passed these monster battles became extremely popular, and monster breeding became the standard pastime of the land. There the priests, using the ancient methods, unlocked the monster inside the disc stone. The worker who first discovered a disc stone took the disc to the Monsters' Temple. One day a group of workers excavating the ancient ruins happened to dig up one of these mythical disc stones. It is said that one monster is trapped inside each one. It is said that the "disc stones" are almost impossible to find among the ancient ruins. Today people still continue searching for these missing "disc stones" to unlock the lifeforms within. Many years have passed since then and god entrusted the humans with the secret of "disc stones". However, new life forms brought new troubles, so god became exasperated and sealed them in "disc stones". People prayed to god for help, and god created new life forms. Again, Phoenix was obtainable in the game, so long as you met certain requirements - but at least they weren’t CD-specific.Before the world's continents broke up into pieces, a huge disaster hit the world. Genki’s quest across the world of Pangaea was to find the Phoenix, the only monster capable of defeating Moo. Though Moo as a villain would appear in later games, the dragon-type monster namedMoo was only obtainable in Monster Rancher 2 - if you had a specific (rare) pressing of the Beck albumMellow Gold. It debuted in Japan in 1999, and starred Genki sucked into a far away world to do battle with the evil Moo. Which makes it even stranger that the BBC showed the Monster Rancher anime! Because I absolutely loved it, despite hating Mocchi with a passion, so much that I despise him being used on almost every game’s case cover. It was only while researching this article that I realised that the one that I’d owned at the time was the only one actually released! I assumed I’d somehow missed the others. However, it was the only game in the series which was released in Europe - over a year later - so it was called Monster Rancher. With skippable cutscenes, more monsters (about twice as many!) and a different story, as well as some quality-of-life and graphical changes, it was pretty much more of the same. The sequel, Monster Rancher 2, arrived in 1999 to much applause. Finally, you sent them off to have a fight, trying to raise your rank in each successive tournament. Meanwhile, you’re feeding them with different foods to buff certain stats while the jobs and training increase others. You had to train your monsters, making sure not to train them too hard without giving them a rest, and send them on jobs to earn money. This first game really did set the tone for everything to follow. Speaking of which, you could pop your memory card into your friend’s PlayStation to battle their monsters! It was a lower chance than you having the same knock-off Tamagotchi as other people in your year group at school. Of course, there was the possibility that two different CDs would make similar monsters, but there were over 200 obtainable creatures in the game.
